How I Stay Motivated
Staying Motivated: My personal strategies for staying motivated
Staying Motivated can be challenging, especially when faced with setbacks or obstacles. However, finding and maintaining motivation is critical to achieving personal and professional goals. Over the years, I have used several
strategies that help me stay motivated and focused, even when the going gets tough.
1. Set SMART Goals
Setting Goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely goals give me a clear sense of direction and purpose. When I have a clear goal in mind, it is easier for me to stay motivated and focused on what I want to achieve.
Is it Specific? Be precise with intention. Do I want to increase my strength, or do I want to increase my strength by 100%, Effectively doubling my Deadlift? Being specific will help keep you on track.
Is it Measurable? By having a specific goal, we can take measurable steps in the direction of accomplishing our goal. I know that increasing my strength in increments of 5-10% consistently will get me to my goal.
Is it Attainable? The goal has to be both challenging enough and possible. I won't set a goal to increase my strength by 500%. While it is within human capability to push to some extremes, that isn't an extreme I wish to achieve.
Is it Realistic? Slightly tied with attainability, but we have to look at what a person can accomplish realistically. We don't all have the same 24 hours, responsibilities might keep a person from training as much as they might like.
Is it Timely? Goals have to be achievable within a reasonable timeframe. If it's something that will take a decade, it takes away a sense of urgency to complete the goal.
2. Celebrate Wins
Celebrating my wins, no matter how small, is a crucial strategy for staying motivated. There are Outcome Goals, and there are Process Goals. This gives us bite-sized portions of our goals, so we can take time to acknowledge and celebrate our successes, whether they are personal or professional. It helps me stay motivated and focused on what I want to achieve. I make sure to take time to reflect on what I have accomplished and to acknowledge and appreciate my progress.
3. Find Your Why
Finding my "why" is another important strategy for staying motivated. Knowing why I want to achieve a specific goal, and what it means to me, helps me stay focused and motivated, even when faced with setbacks or obstacles. I make sure to remind myself of my "why" whenever I feel unmotivated, as this helps me stay focused on what I want to achieve. My "Why" will usually get me misty-eyed. I want to benefit as many people as I can with the time I have on earth. Whether it's through Martial Arts, Fitness, Mindfulness, or Compassion. When my Goals seem unachievable, my Why will kick me back into gear.
Final Thoughts
Staying motivated can be a challenge, but it is essential for achieving personal and professional goals. Nothing worthwhile does not involve some challenge and change. By setting SMART goals, celebrating my wins, and finding my "why," I have been able to stay motivated and focused on what I want to achieve. Whether you are looking to make a change in your personal or professional life, these strategies can help you stay motivated and focused on what you want to achieve.
